This sindoor box is shaped like the head of a bull, with two curved horns, upright ears and a heavy brow above a broad muzzle. The look is antique and the finish is Rajwadi, a warm, slightly worn surface that suits the rounded forms. It is a North style design, made to sit on a table as an object in its own right.
Ruby Green is the colour option. Pear-shaped ruby and green stones are set across the forehead in a triangle, with a tiny round stone at the very top and a ring of small stones around it. A ribbed band wraps the base of each horn, and a small ring with a hanging drop sits under the muzzle. Smooth cheeks and a plain nose keep attention on the forehead stones.
The weight is 83 gm, so it feels solid when you lift it and stays upright on a shelf or a dressing table. It is made of metal alloy base, artificial stones. A hinge sits at the back of the neck, and the head swings open from the front to show a long hollow lined with fine engraving, where sindoor or kumkum can be kept.
