Finger Rings for Women: Sizing and Buying Guide

Written by the OyeKudiye editorial team · Last updated

What is an adjustable ring and how does it fit?

Adjustable ring: a ring with an open band that you can gently widen or narrow to fit your finger, so you do not need an exact ring size. Not every ring on this page is adjustable. The product title and description say so when a ring is, and fixed-size rings state the size.

To fit an adjustable ring, slide it onto the finger, then press the band slowly until it sits snugly. Do this a few times at most, because repeated bending can weaken any metal. If it feels loose, tighten the open ends a little, and if it feels tight, open them gently. Do not force it over the knuckle.

How do you find your ring size?

Ring sizes are standardised in India. The Bureau of Indian Standards IS 15892:2019 adopts the international ISO 8653 method, which defines ring size as the inner circumference of the ring in millimetres. Many sellers still use their own size numbers, so use millimetres when a page gives them. We do not publish a size-number conversion table because charts differ between sellers.

StepWhat to do
1Wrap a thin strip of paper or thread around the base of the finger
2Mark where the ends meet and measure the strip with a ruler in millimetres
3That length is your circumference (the ISO size). Divide by 3.14 to get the diameter
4Measure in the evening, when fingers are slightly larger, and check twice
5If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger, especially for wide bands

You can also measure a ring that already fits: lay it flat and measure the inside width, then multiply by 3.14. For example, an inside width of 17 mm is a circumference of about 53 mm.

Statement rings and how to wear them

A statement ring is the one piece of jewellery that carries the outfit, so keep the rest of the hand quiet. Skip a bracelet or wear a slim bangle if you want one. Choose the finger that feels comfortable and gives the ring space, since wide bases can press against neighbouring fingers. Wear it on the hand you use less to protect it from knocks.

Wearing more than one ring

Two or three slim rings worn together look modern and playful. Keep them in the same metal tone and vary the shapes, for example one stone, one plain and one textured. Combo packs are handy here because the rings are designed to go together, and you can wear them on one hand or split them. Avoid stacking a bold statement ring with several others, which can look crowded.

Choosing the right size and proportion for your hand

A ring looks best when its width suits your finger. Slim fingers can carry a wide statement ring, but a very large stone on a small hand can feel top-heavy. Longer fingers suit horizontal shapes, such as an oval or a marquise, and shorter fingers look elongated with a vertical shape. If your knuckles are larger than the base of your finger, an adjustable ring slides on more easily than a fixed one.

Which stone colour should you pick?

Stone colour decides how the ring joins the rest of your outfit. White and clear stones go with everything, green and ruby tones look rich with gold-tone, pink and mint add a fresh touch, and multicolour rings work with printed outfits. If you wear a lot of colour already, a simpler ring lets the outfit lead. Compare the colour in the photos with your favourite sarees and kurtas before you decide.

Floral, peacock and other ring designs

Floral rings have petal shapes that suit festive and day outfits, peacock rings borrow the feather pattern for a traditional look, and butterfly or layered rings feel modern. Antique designs bring detailed carving. Tribal oxidised rings suit boho and indo-western looks. Each design has its own mood, so choose it the way you would choose a pair of earrings.

Rings for daily wear, parties and festivals

For daily wear, choose slimmer rings with smaller stones that do not catch on clothes or bags. For parties, pick a bolder stone or a floral design. For festivals and weddings, kundan and antique rings look right with silk and heavy work. For colour ideas, our saree and lehenga colour guide shows which stones suit which fabrics.

Matching your rings with other jewellery

Match the metal tone with your bangles, bracelets, earrings and necklace sets so the whole look agrees. If your necklace and earrings are bold, choose one ring only. For gift ideas, see our Diwali and Bhai Dooj jewellery gift ideas. Elephant motifs appear on some rings, and you can browse them on the elephant design page.

Choosing a ring within your budget

Rings are among the most affordable pieces in our range, so you can buy several. Use the price filter above the products to set your limit. Free shipping starts at Rs 499, and rings are light, so a few of them added to an order can help you reach it.

Looking after your rings

Remove rings before washing your hands, cooking, swimming or applying lotion, since water and creams can dull stones and finishes. Store each ring in a separate compartment so the stones do not scratch each other. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing. These habits help any artificial jewellery, though no finish can be promised to last forever.

Frequently asked questions

What is an adjustable ring?

An adjustable ring has an open band that you can gently widen or narrow to fit your finger, so you do not need an exact size. It is a convenient choice for gifts because you do not need to know the exact size of the person. Not every ring is adjustable, so check the title and the description on the product page.

How do I find my ring size?

Wrap a strip of paper around the base of your finger, mark where it meets and measure the length in millimetres. That is your circumference, which is how ISO 8653 and IS 15892:2019 define ring size. Measure in the evening and choose the larger size if you are between two.

Which finger should I wear a statement ring on?

Wear it on whichever finger is comfortable and has room for the ring. The index and ring fingers are popular, and many people prefer the hand they use less. Wide bases can press on neighbouring fingers, so try the ring on before you decide.

What is the difference between a statement ring and a cocktail ring?

A cocktail ring is a large, eye-catching ring, usually with a big stone, worn for parties. A statement ring is a wider idea that includes cocktail rings and any bold design. Both are meant to lead the look, so wear one at a time.

Can I wear rings every day?

Yes, slim rings with small stones are comfortable for daily wear. Take them off before washing, cooking, swimming or using lotion. Remove bulky statement rings when typing or lifting, and keep them for events where you want the hand to be noticed.

Which rings go with a saree or a kurta?

With a silk saree, antique or kundan rings in a gold-tone suit well. With a cotton saree or a kurta, oxidised, floral or pearl rings look relaxed. Pick one ring with a bold stone or a few slim ones, and match the metal tone to your bangles.

What is an oxidised ring?

An oxidised ring has a dark, antique-looking finish that gives a rustic, earthy look. It suits kurtas, cotton sarees and jeans. Some product names spell it oxidized. The finish is named on each product page, and you can compare designs on the oxidised jewellery page.

What are kundan rings?

Kundan rings recreate the polished look of traditional kundan jewellery, with stones set in a gold-tone frame. They suit weddings and festivals and pair well with kundan earrings and necklace sets. See the kundan finger ring page to compare current designs.

Do you sell ring sets or combos?

Some listings are combos with more than one ring in the pack, and the title says so. A combo gives you a few rings in the same style to wear together or on different days. Check the photos to see how many rings come in each pack.

Are all your rings adjustable?

No, only some of the rings are adjustable. The title or description will say so when a ring is adjustable, and fixed-size rings list a size. If you are unsure, measure your finger using the steps in the guide and compare it with the size on the product page.

How do I adjust a ring that is too tight or loose?

Press the open ends of the band slowly together to make it smaller, or ease them apart to make it larger. Make the change in small steps and try the ring on each time. Bending a ring repeatedly can weaken the metal, so avoid forcing it.

What are stackable rings?

Stackable rings are slim rings that you wear together on one finger or one hand to build a layered look. Keep them in the same metal tone and vary the textures, for example one plain band with one stone ring. Combo packs of slim rings are a simple way to start, because the rings in a pack are designed to go together.

Is cash on delivery available for rings?

Cash on delivery is available on orders above Rs 499 within India. If your order is below that value, you can pay online with the options at checkout. Free shipping applies to orders of Rs 499 or more, and rings are light, so you can add several to reach it.

What is the return policy for rings?

You can report a wrong, damaged or defective ring within 2 days of delivery, and the process is on our returns and refunds page. For hygiene reasons, check the policy for any exclusions before you order. The 2-day window applies to orders within India only.

Do you ship finger rings outside India?

International orders are handled on request. Contact us with the ring you want, the size and your country, and we will confirm whether we can send it and on what terms. The shipping, cash on delivery and 2-day return terms on this page apply to orders within India.
