Against a dark, oxidised finish the raised parts of this temple sindoor box show up sharply: a seated goddess on a lotus rises from the centre of the lid, and a border of straight-line key pattern runs around its edge. Flowers fill the lid between the figure and the border. The listing gives the finish as Oxidised and the style as Temple.
Two small vase-shaped ornaments stand on the base plate at either side, each with a ruby accent, and ruby is the only colour listed. The plate is cut into eight points and patterned underneath with a woven design. The contrast between the dark recesses and the bright raised lines does the work that colour does in other boxes, and it makes the carving easy to read.
Cast in metal alloy, it weighs 51 gm. A narrow loop clasp at the front holds the lid, and the bowl inside takes sindoor, with room for a small spoon or a fingertip.
