The lotus-shaped pendant is what you notice first on this antique maang tikka, with rows of petals set with small stones and a line of round beads hanging from its lower edge. Above it, a long chain of small linked units carries stones in two tones, so the decoration carries on up the chain right to the hook.

Ruby and ruby green are the colours in stock. The mixed one suits a saree with several shades in the border, since the stones pick up more than one of them, while plain ruby works with a single bold silk. With such a long chain the piece reaches well back from the forehead, so hair pulled back from a centre parting shows it off. Keep the earrings small.
