A teardrop stone hangs in the middle of a crescent ring on this American Diamond maang tikka, which is the detail the eye settles on first. Small stones run all the way round the ring, five drops fall from the bottom edge, and above it a small crown of stones joins a stem of leaf-shaped stones to the two chains and the hook.

The Mehendi finish gives the metal a warm tone, while the stones stay white, and white is the only colour in stock. That mix is easy with a pastel saree, but equally with a brightly coloured lehenga where it adds structure without adding another shade. Because the ring is open, hair parted in the middle shows through it, so keep the parting neat and the hair smooth near the hairline. A simple pair of studs finishes it.
