A round cap with a small ruby coloured flower sits at the top of this one of the hair accessories for women, and from it three strands of leaf-patterned links fall to a wide fan. The fan is worked in rows of leaf shapes that radiate from a centre flower, with smaller flowers at each side, and its lower edge is finished with a fringe of tiny round beads.
Ruby is all that is listed, and it shows in the centre stones of the flowers. The finish is deep and antique, which suits the dense work on the fan, and the open gap between the strands lets some of the hair show through. It is a large piece that needs a firm hairstyle, such as a bun set high, with the fan resting on the hair behind it. Wear it with a plain saree and simple earrings.
