Detail comes first on this antique kamar patta: a narrow band worked in a fine, open pattern, with small ruby coloured and green settings set along its length, a round green setting in a ring at the centre, and below it a square drop in a deep ruby shade with a single round pendant hanging from its lowest point. A hook at each end closes it.
The listed colour is ruby green. The two colours alternate along the band in small touches, and the larger square drop repeats the ruby, so the belt reads as a unified piece with one clear focus. The pattern work gives it an antique character that goes with a silk saree in a rich shade, and the band is narrow enough to sit snugly at the waist or on the hip without adding bulk. The old listing called it a drop kamarpatta, and the drop is what makes it different from a plain chain.
